WeSCoS Colloquium #03 “Increasing Presence and Possibility of Private and Financial Sectors in the Field of Climate Change Adaptation”
Presenter: Yuki Kita (Specially Appointed Researcher, Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo ・Gaia Vision Representative Director)
Date and Time: 3:00 pm-, December 27, 2022
Abstract:
Global trends in decarbonization and adaptation are accelerating as the impacts of climate change become apparent. In the financial sector, information disclosure such as TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures) is spreading, and new funds such as sustainable finance and ESG investment are expanding, and the need for climate forecast data is rapidly increasing. In order to promote adaptation to weather-related disasters and extreme weather, private sector funding and technical assistance are also attracting attention. What are the roles played by the private sector and finance in the field of climate change? How are climate studies and academia involved? We will report on our research on the current state of the private sector and the financial sector, pose suggestions and questions that arise from this research, and consider the possibilities of the private sector.
